Literature Text

When you're 21, you think you own the world
Being able to drink legally in The States
And able to be on your own
But when you start to grow up
Do you ever really grow up?
You become 22, 23, 24…
And once you hit 25, you're not a child anymore
You're not young anymore
You have to start settling down,
Have a boy/girl friend,
Have a family
But you want to focus on your career
You don't even have a career yet
A few part-time jobs later
And you still unsure what to do with your life
But you do have a passion
One that you left with once graduating the University
And you don't want to do anything else
So where does that leave you now?
Roaming the streets looking for some easy cash?
No, you're searching through craigslist
Desperately looking for your big break
Five thousand cover letters and resumes later
You're still left with nothing
Just another post-grad
Two years out of the dorms, actually
With fading knowledge from classes back then
Tons of student loans to pay off on top of your every-day bills
And you're afraid
Did your schooling do nothing?
Did you make the right choice in life?
Are you making the right choice in life?
Following your dreams
Even though there might be a few roadblocks in your way
Now, you're older...wiser…
And still lost in the jumble
Feeling like you haven't grown up at all
I was trying to perfect this poem, but with the "abrupt" ending, it seems to fit. What do you think?

Pretty much my life right about now. Ugh. Growing up is hard. Being an adult is hard. //angst
